Calling All Junior Rangers!
Have fun exploring Capitol Park this summer and earn a Junior Ranger Badge!
Children ages 7-12 years will enjoy hands-on activities while they learn about the plants and animals in this urban park.
Summer 2024 Sessions!
Children ages 7-12 can choose from 3 programs:
- Using a Map and Compass
- Redwoods and Oaks
- Urban Park Ecosystems
At your first Junior Ranger program you will get a logbook and badge. For each program you will earn a stamp in your logbook. There are over 70 participating California State Parks with Junior Ranger programs. Bring your logbook to other California State Parks to get it stamped and earn some cool rewards!

On-line pre-registration is required, and a parent or guardian must accompany the child at all times.

Register for a Session
*Note: If the session you want to attend is full, check back on the Friday and Saturday before the session. Late cancellations are common and spaces often become available!
Important Information
Program participants should arrive 10 minutes before the program starts for check-in, wear comfortable shoes, and bring water, sunscreen, and a hat.
On-line pre-registration is required, and a parent or guardian must accompany the child at all times.

Where should I park?
There is street parking on N street and L streets near the meeting place.
Where is the nearest bathroom?
There is a public restroom near the Junior Ranger Table.
How much does it cost?
The programs are free. Metered parking on Sundays are free.
What happens if it rains?
The program will be cancelled due to rainy weather.
If the registration is full, can I still join the program?
No, we can only accept the amount of participants listed for each program – a valid registration is required.
How do I know that my child is registered?
You will receive a confirmation email.
How do I cancel my registration?
You can cancel online at Eventbrite.com. You can also send an email to CapitolJuniorRangers@parks.ca.gov or call (916) 324-0333.
Can my child sign up for multiple programs?
Yes, you can sign up for all 3 different programs.
